Ruben Amorim urges his Man United stars to FIGHT each other just like Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane as Red Devils boss shares fear his side will 'return to the feeling of last season' after defeat by Everton

Ruben Amorim wants his Manchester United players to fight each other if they lose the ball, just as Everton did en route to getting a red card in their win at Old Trafford.

United looked set to cruise through the game when Idrissa Gueye was shown a straight red card for slapping Michael Keane inside the first 15 minutes.

But United never looked remotely in control as they produced arguably the worst Premier League performance in Amorim's year in charge.

Amorim not only disagreed with the red card shown to Gueye - who apologised in the dressing room after the win - he wants to see his players do exactly the same in future.

'Fighting is not a bad thing. Fighting doesn't mean they don't like each other,' Amorim said.

'Fighting is that you lose the ball and I will fight you because you lose the ball and we will suffer a goal. That was my feeling when I watched.

The decision was correct by the letter of the law but Ruben Amorim did not agree with it

'I don't agree with that sending off. So I'm going to say that it was... We can fight with the team-mates.

'I know it's a violent conduct, the referee explained that. I don't agree with that.

'I hope my players when they lose the ball they fight each other. Now they cannot get sent off. But that is a good feeling, not a bad feeling.'

Everton dominated all night long and Amorim, who walked into the press room with his head bowed, admitted he is worried about this side taking too many backward steps.

'I feel afraid of returning to this feeling of last season, that is my biggest concern,' he said.

'We need to work together. We are going to work together. The players are trying but we need to be better. We have training tomorrow and we are going to prepare the next one.

'The way we see the results of the weekend, we should get inside the pitch with a different excitement. That is my feeling.

'It doesn't matter if you are playing well, making good passes, but the feeling, and Old Trafford was there saying we are all here to give you a big step up and I felt that we were not ready.

'Again, these five weeks everyone is praising our evolution. I'm always saying the same things. We are not even near at the moment where we're supposed to be in this club.'
